Maintaining anal health is vital for gay men and other men who have sex with men (MSM) who engage in anal sex. Though practiced universally by both men and women, stigma around anal sex, greatly compounded by homophobia and racism, prevents MSM of color from accessing the information and care needed to maintain anal health and hygiene. To raise awareness about the need for improved anal health and hygiene in communities at greatest risk for HIV, expert panelists will address the prevention and treatment of anal dysplasia and STDs, including rectal microbicides for HIV prevention; beliefs and behaviors related to sexuality and anal sex in Black and Latino MSM that negatively impact access to care; and will engage participants in a lively discussion about the best ways to address barriers and improve anal health in communities most at risk.
