Twenty years ago, Dr. Harold P. Freeman created the term “patient navigation services (PNS)” to denote an intervention for people living with cancer. Over time these persons have assisted in other diseases, specifically HIV and AIDS care. However, there are many questions about how to best use navigators and how effective are they?
The purpose of this workshop is to identify the basic tools and practices to help community groups measure the effectiveness of their HIV Patient Navigators in their communities. Using a highly interactive approach we will explore ways to monitor and evaluate the different components of PNS. We will focus on the development of a logic model to guide PNS activities as well as process and outcome indicators. At the end of the workshop, participants will have the knowledge and resources to monitor and evaluate their respective PNS program.
