Introducing DHAP’s Newest Implementation Guide: Implementing HIV Testing in Nonclinical Settings: A Guide for HIV Testing Providers

CDC recommends that all adolescents and adults get tested at least once for HIV as a routine part of medical care, and that men who have sex with men (MSM) and others at high risk for HIV infection be tested more frequently.  Guidelines and recommendations for implementing HIV testing in nonclinical and clinical settings were released in 2001 and 2006 respectively.  However, recent scientific and programmatic advances in HIV care, treatment, and prevention warranted updating previous recommendations, particularly in nonclinical settings, and  led to the development of  DHAP’s latest guide: Implementing HIV Testing in Nonclinical Settings: A Guide for HIV Testing Providers (Implementation Guide).  This workshop will present an overview of the newly released Implementation Guide, background on the Guide’s development and implications for programmatic implementation in nonclinical settings.

By the conclusion of this workshop, participants will:

• Gain a clearer understanding of the Implementation Guide

• Identify key areas that were updated

• Discuss implications of implementing the Guide in their agencies and

• Identify potential capacity building assistance needs
