Leading and Managing Change: Tools & Skills to Create a Strong Leadership Structure and Navigate Staffing Transitions in Your Organization
This workshop will provide Executive Directors and Emerging Leaders with information, skills and tools to create a strong leadership team and solid succession plans for their agencies within their departments and executive leadership teams. Many ASOs have strong, visionary leaders that have made immeasurable contributions to their agencies, the field, and the lives of countless individuals. In some cases these leaders are heading toward retirement, others are burnt out or simply want to do something new. In other cases, executive leaders and managers have maxed out their skills but are stuck with no clear path forward on how to exit the agency and varying levels of succession plans in place. In other situations, a leader or manager experiences an unexpected illness or family situation that requires a temporary but sudden staffing shift. This workshop will provide executives, department directors and emerging leaders with knowledge, skills and tools to prepare for and navigate these planned or unplanned transitions with the goal of ensuring smooth, seamless and high quality services, administration and donor relations.
After this workshop, participants will:
• Better understand organizational and leadership development lifecycles
• Understand that succession planning is not just a tool for replacing the Executive Director, but is more importantly, is a tool for ensuring seamless delivery of services and agency operations when any manager, supervisor or executive leader experiences an intentional transition or unexpected leave of absence
• Be equipped with tools and real-time examples that can be put to immediate use in their department or agency
• Be able to make the “business case” for multi-level leadership development and succession planning within their agency
